Dear Neighbors
For the past week or so we have experienced a “bonanza” of prescribed burns. We have had striking views of the Peaks, Upper Beaver Creek and Mint East of Mormon Lake fires. These were planned. Please be prepared for any unexpected fires by having your bugout list and bags prepared. Right now 58% of Arizona is under exceptional drought conditions.
On a more pleasant note, our late spring/early summer weather is beautiful in the mornings and evenings and nice in the shade at other times. Good weather in which to relax and appreciate nature.
This Saturday has two important events for us, the Saturday Drive-thru Food Bank at Beaver Creek School and the Dump the Drugs opportunity is back at the Adult Center. The details are below.

Saturday, 5/8—Dump the Drugs is back at the Beaver Creek Adult Center from 10 AM to Noon.  This event gives an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medication (including ones for pets).  Please drop medications off at the Beaver Creek Adult Center (near Attitudez on Maines), 4250 E. Vaccine Update

Dear Neighbors
Spectrum Healthcare has announced that new appointments for receiving the vaccine are currently on hold. Until Spectrum Healthcare receives further commitments of vaccine, they have paused their online appointment portal. Anyone who already has a confirmed appointment will receive the vaccine as scheduled. “Our main concern is securing more doses of vaccine to meet the needs of our Yavapai County. Until those doses have been secured, we have had to temporarily suspend scheduling any new vaccination appointments,” stated April Rhodes, CEO of Spectrum Healthcare. To date, approximately 15,000 people are scheduled for their vaccination.

I want to thank all our internal healthcare workers, the health department and the many volunteers coming out in our community to help administer the shots and quickly coordinate this event,” stated April Rhodes, CEO at Spectrum.

A vaccine event of this scale would not be possible without the support of all our local community partners. Much gratitude to the City of Cottonwood and Yavapai County for their support of this event.

“I am so pleased to hear that Spectrum will be quickly administering the Covid-19 vaccination in Cottonwood. A critical component to regaining life as we knew it a year ago is vaccinating the majority of our population. This vaccine has been proven safe and is in use across the world. I hope you will join me in receiving it. We must ensure our vulnerable family, friends and neighbors remain safe and protected. My deepest gratitude goes out to our healthcare workers and first responders who continue to endure. This has been a long and challenging year for everyone and now there is light,” stated City of Cottonwood Mayor, Tim Elinski.

Yavapai County has received enough of the Moderna vaccine, which is 94% effective at preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 according the Center for Disease Control, to inoculate a minimum of 500 residence per day. “We are thrilled to support these Points of Distribution (POD) events across our county to make sure we are reaching every area of Yavapai County. We are thankful for the outpouring of support from the community to make these possible” says Yavapai County Health Department Director, Leslie Horton.
