Red, White and Blue: that’s the Spirit! – July 4, 2017

July 4, 2017 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM On Tuesday, July 4, the Beaver Creek Parade will leave the Sycamore Park area in Lake Montezuma at 9:00 AM and travel south on Montezuma Avenue past the Village Square. This year the Grand Marshals are Ernie and Juddie Batcheller who invite all to join them in celebrating Independence Day. The Junior Marshal is Mia Charley.  Parade entrants (walkers, animals, vehicles, floats, etc) should sign up at the Montezuma Rimrock Fire Station or call 928-567-9401. The festivities and pancake breakfast will be in Rollins Park at the Lake Montezuma Village Square. The BC Kiwanis Duck Race will be on Wet Beaver Creek by Sycamore Park. For inquiries about display tables, entertainment and activities please call Carol Keeton, Kiwanis President, at 928-606-4050.

LMPOA Annual Meeting Saturday 1/28/2017 3:00 PM

Don’t forget, the LMPOA Annual Meeting of all members is tomorrow, Saturday at 3:00PM at the Beaver Creek Adult Center.  All members and neighbors are invited.  Come and see your neighbors, join us for refreshments and let your voices be heard. We will have an outstanding speaker, Ken Zoll, Executive Director of the VV Archaeology Center in Camp Verde.  We will elect the Board for 2017 and consider a name change for LMPOA.  Click here for the full Agenda.

Each year the LMPOA holds its annual meeting during the season when geese are flocking around the golf course, quacking and honking and generally acting like, well, silly geese.  One might think they were just a noisy gaggle of geese, each with their own opinion, loudly stated in honks and squabbles on 20160119_163248the ground.  You would be wrong, of course.  Those silly geese, who normally have nothing more important to do than to quack and honk, when they decide to flock together and rise up into the air, become a troop of aeronautic precision flyers.  They quickly rise in strict formation, inspiring us all and reminding us that even silly geese can do astonishing things when they share goals and remember their shared destination.

You might think, likewise, that the LMPOA is a group of citizens with no more important business than to worry about the stuff in their neighbors’ backyards!  You would be wrong, of course.  When we work together, we can accomplish extraordinary things.  We need your leadership to do that.  So come on out to the Annual Meeting on Saturday. Let the silly geese inspire us to flock together for our common goals as neighbors.

The Lake Montezuma Women’s Civic Club usually has one special fundraising event each year in order to support community efforts in the Beaver Creek Community by donating to local charities (see below) and providing scholarships. The members invite you to come enjoy the HOLIDAY HOME TOUR and enter the raffle drawings.  This year’s officers are:  Karin Ward, president; Bonnie McConachie, treasurer; Darla Melcher, secretary; and Barbara Hitchcock, vice president.  Please don’t miss out on this opportunity to get to know Beaver Creek better and see some beautiful decorations!  This special event starts at the board room located at the front of Beaver Creek School, 4810 E Beaver Creek Rd.

Saturday, 12/17-The Lake Montezuma Women’s Civic Club is sponsoring a Holiday Home Touras a fundraiser for scholarships and community support. The tour will take place on Saturday, December 17 from 2 to 5 PM.  Tickets are $10 each (ages 12 and under are free) and may be purchased from Civic Club members, businesses with Gingerbread signs or purchased at the door. The tour will start at the Beaver Creek School Board Room, 4810 E Beaver Creek Rd. in Rimrock or Betty Hart’s Home at 3765 E Montezuma Ave. in Lake Montezuma. The tour includes the 1932 Rock School House, Carolers, Bake Sale, Raffle (items from participating Beaver Creek Businesses) and five decorated homes. Come celebrate the Holidays with us!

  • LMPOA will host the District 2 Community Meeting held by Tom Thurman on Saturday, 8/13 at 10 AM in the BC Adult Center. The 5-year road plan is the special topic of the meeting.
  • Call for Public Discussion Items.  Discussion with residents.

Welcome to Fourth of July Weekend in the Beaver Creek area.  Monsoon has started so there may be some thunderstorms today and Saturday.  But the Sunday and Monday forecasts are for sunny, clear and just below 100 degree weather, ideal for celebrations and BBQ!
A reminder from Battalion Chief Steve Sarkesian of Copper Canyon Fire & Medical that even though the monsoon season is upon us, please remember that vegetation is still dry.  He reports that on Wednesday afternoon the Montezuma Rimrock and Camp Verde Fire crews were dispatched to a brush fire in the area of Bice Rd.  Upon arrival the fire was located in the area of Beaver Creek.  The area grew to about ½ acre in size and was quickly extinguished by fire crews from Montezuma Rimrock.   Camp Verde and Verde Valley crews also assisted.  A total of 10 personnel were on scene.  The cause of the fire was undetermined after investigation.
The annual firework show begins at 9 PM on Sunday, July 3, from Cliff Castle Casino in Camp Verde and the Beaver Creek Fourth of July Parade and Celebration is in Lake Montezuma from 7 AM through Noon, Monday, July 4.  Today is the last day to buy 50/50 Raffle Tickets and the Montezuma Rimrock Fire Station.  Duck Race tickets are still available throughout Rimrock, Lake Montezuma and McGuireville.  Look for the Kiwanis Duck Race signs.  This year there are super cash awards from the Beaver Creek Kiwanis and lots of fine prizes donated by businesses.
Congratulations to Pat and Karen Dufresne who are the Beaver Creek Parade Marshals for 2016.  And congratulations to Briana Buchert who is the 2016 Junior Parade Marshal. Please don’t miss cheering for the honorees, and your friends and neighbors on Monday morning.

Beaver Creek Road Cleanup Saturday 4/23/2016

One Hour Cleanup if everyone helps!

 
Saturday, 4/23 — As the Adopt-A-Road sponsors of one mile of Beaver Creek Road, please join the Verde Valley Ancestral Gardens for trash cleanup on April 23rd. Meet at Nikki’s Grill parking lot in McGuireville at 8 AM to pick up safety vests, trash grabbers and trash bags. Expected duration is one hour. The more the merrier and the quicker the cleanup, so we hope to see you there!

LMPOA March Update

Dear Members
Our March meeting was cut short due to a medical emergency, so the board only got as far as accepting the February minutes which are posted on the website.

During February we mailed two official letters of recommendation for the ongoing trails and grant efforts of the Beaver Creek Trails Coalition which we co-founded and support.  Those are posted on the website.
Currently we have arranged for a clean up collection of items on Friday, 3/18 of items for the dump.  If you have items and do not have a vehicle suitable to transport them in or cannot lift them, please call 301-2749, ASAP.  We have room to pick up some more stuff.  Two Yavapai County Probationer work vehicles and our own Rollins Park maintainer are doing the job.
The Camp Verde Refuse Transfer Station continues to be open for FREE dumping Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays through April 2 from 8 AM to 4 PM.  Please don’t miss out.
Also a one time benefit is being provided for unincorporated area residents by Yavapai County and Sedona Recycles.  A FREE ELECTRONIC RECYCLING is scheduled this Saturday at Red Rock High School in Sedona from 8 AM to Noon only.  We will have a pick up truck or two sitting on the lot near Beaver Creek Self Storage from about 7:30 AM to 10 ish or until filled.  Otherwise it’s a nice Saturday drive.

LMPOA Board Meeting 11/2/2015

A meeting of the Board of Directors of LMPOA was held Monday, November 2, 2015.  The featured presentation was given by Anthony Palermo of Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, ably assisted by Deputy Carlos Godina, also part of the County Community Relations Team.  They discussed ways in which Neighborhood Watch groups can keep the crime rate down in communities such as ours.  The following links are for some of the materials provided following the meeting:

Sue Brann, a community resident who leads a highly effective Block Watch Group in Lake Montezuma, spoke about the way her group has organized to patrol a large area by smart scheduling, and providing a master reference book of information about homes and residents. That master book is passed to the patrollers currently on duty each week, and is kept current through the year, so that those on patrol know what to expect on each block: e.g., when neighbors may be out of town, guests may be staying with unfamiliar vehicles, and so on. She also emphasized that the Block Watch’s mission is to look for suspicious activity, and to notify law enforcement if something is spotted, rather than to tackle the matter themselves. The Sheriff’s department contingent heartily agreed, and assured us that leads are all followed up. Congratulations to Sue and her group for a really successful, long-term positive result on the neighborhood. A good crowd of neighbors was on hand to talk about ideas and questions regards the Block Watch program, and to express concerns about  traffic and speeding enforcement.

The Board handled other business in their usual efficient manner, approved necessary minutes and financials, discussed pending recommendations, and scheduled lots of activity over the next couple of months. Work details were scheduled to put up holiday lights in Rollins Park — in time for Christmas and Holiday Fest, but not so early that we lose sight of Thanksgiving or the meaning of the season. Arrangements to stuff envelopes for mailings to our members, planning for the Annual Meeting in January, and so on, will keep your Board from dozing off between now and the end of the year.
